Obituary

It is with love and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved dad and grandpa, Wyman Roy Ray, who peacefully left us at the remarkable age of 101, Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

Born, August 9, 1923, Wyman lived a full and meaningful life, filled with love, wisdom, and kindness. He touched the hearts of all who knew him and was a source of strength and inspiration to his family. Wyman married the love of his life, Shirley Marquardt, on June 27, 1948. They lived their entire married lives in Moberly but enjoyed traveling to various places such as the Bahamas, Florida, and Las Vegas. They also served many, many years at their church West Park Methodist Church and for the Meals on Wheels program. Wyman worked most of his life in the car shop of the Railroad where he retired after close to 40 years of service. He enjoyed countless hours of golfing and in service with the Shriners in many capacities but most memorable as a clown.

Wyman was preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Hazel Ray, brother Norman Ray, wife Shirley Ray, and daughter Kathy. He is survived by his daughter Patty Smith, granddaughters Kristy Smith Ellison and Autumn Smith Stalker with husband Darin, great-grandsons Britton Ellison, Hayden Stalker, Samson Stalker, and Barik Stalker.

Whether it was sharing his endless knowledge, telling a good joke, or simply enjoying the quiet moments with family, Grandpa’s presence will be deeply missed. Though he's no longer with us, his legacy and spirit will live on in the memories we hold dear. Rest in peace, Grandpa—you were truly one of a kind.

Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation that was held at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel, followed by Masonic and Funeral services honoring and celebrating Wyman’s life.  Committal prayer and burial took place at the Memorial Park Cemetery.
