Obituary

Wilson Curtis Burke, 92, of Moberly, passed away, Thursday, December 15, 2022.  He was born December 1, 1930 in Moberly, to the union of Elmer P. and Braxie K. (Gaines) Burke.

Survivors include his children, Claudia Jo “Jody” Burke of Alabama, Gerald W. Burke and his wife Cindy of Florida, Judy A. Appelhans and her husband Ken of Colorado and Julie J. Bruno of Colorado, 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, a sister, Barbara K. Newberry of Madison, Mark Skinner and his wife Mayda of Kansas City, MO, and Linda Reid and her husband Mark of Indiana and their families, as well as many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Alta M. (Esry) Burke, son, James N. Burke, granddaughter, Toby Lynn Miller, grandson, Eugene A. Bruno, sister, Wilma Sue Tyler and former wife, Barbara L. Noel.

Wilson attended Madison High School.  He helped out on the family farm in his younger days.  Wilson worked full-time well into his Seventies.  His lengthy work career would take him to the shoe factory, and then on to earn two pensions.  One pension was through the Teamsters at Orscheln, retiring as in-state truck driver.  The second, through Moberly School system, retiring as a Maintenance Supervisor. 

A man of few words, Wilson sure enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and neighbors.  He also enjoyed boating, racing, bluegrass music, and pie.

Words of comfort and support may be shared with the family at a visitation Wednesday, December 21, 2022, 10:00 am – 11:00 am in the Cater Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services honoring Wilson’s life will follow at 11:00 am.  Private committal prayer and entombment, will take place at the Resurrection Mausoleum in the Oakland Cemetery
