Obituary

V. Wanda Hunker, 80, of Columbia, formerly of Moberly, passed away Friday, June 21, 2024. She was born in February 1944, in Boonville, MO to the union of Cordie and Ida Myrtle Hopper.

She was a busy, active Navy wife, traveling and moving around the country the first few years of marriage. She graduated as a Medical Assistant/Receptionist in Kansas City, then worked in several offices before opening Hunker Appliance Service in Moberly with her husband Steve. They co-owned and ran the business from 1970-1988. She then worked in the Medical Offices in Columbia from 1989-2002. After retiring, they moved to Lake Taneycomo, close to Branson for a few years, then moved back to Moberly to be closer to their daughter and son.

Wanda was a member of Coates Street Presbyterian Church where she had served as Elder, Deacon, and Youth Group Leader. She was also an active member of the VFW Auxiliary, Moberly Red Hatters, Altrusa International, Cub Scouts, and the American Cancer Society. She and Steve were active Square Dance members for many years of Little Dixie Squares of Moberly, Huffs and Puffs and Dudes and Dames, both of Columbia.

She loved her husband, children, and grandchildren very much and they were the joy of her life. She enjoyed spending time with all her family and her husband’s family. She and Steve loved dancing and traveling and did quite a bit of both. She was an avid reader and card player.

Wanda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Steve, daughters Stephaney Dawn Carter and infant Michelle Faith Hunker, her parents, and two brothers.

Wanda is survived by her son Scott Hunker and his wife Stacy Barr, grandchildren Tristan Meyer and Addison Hunker, son-in-law Timothy Carter, all of Columbia, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the American Cancer Society or Coates St. Presbyterian Church.
