Vicki Lynn (Christy) Summers of Moberly passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2024. She was the middle child of five, born to the union of Wayne F. and Mary (Bridges) Christy. She was born August 1, 1950, in Ottumwa, Iowa, and as an adult maintained that it never rains on August 1.
Vicki was a student in the Albia, Iowa school system until her graduation from high school in 1968 and felt like she received a good education. During high school, she was involved in many activities including the Senior Class Play, the Art Club and Chorus to name a few.
On November 1, 1969, she married James (Jim) Summers (Albia Community High School class of 1967), in Albia, Iowa. They spent the first four years of their marriage on military bases, and while in the US Navy, their daughters, Mary Lynn and Amy Louise were born.
They settled in rural Moberly, Missouri afterwards. She and Jim travelled whenever possible and especially favored trips south for scuba diving, snorkeling, and beach walking. Both of her children and grandchildren were also fortunate enough to travel with her, and she was a joy to explore the world with. Her adventures took her to California, Washington State, New York, Florida, and a multitude of places in between. In addition, she visited the country of Mexico, Japan and many Caribbean destinations.
In addition, Vicki enjoyed sewing, quilting, flower gardening and home improvement projects, and her imagination and creativity knew no bounds. She was a bookkeeper and tax preparer for forty years and enjoyed her profession. Eventually she opened her own business and retired in 2018.
She is survived by her daughters, Lynn Summers of Columbia, and Amy Summers, of Huntsville, a brother, Kevin Christy of Longmont, Colorado, her grandchildren, Katrina of Paris and Andrew of Columbia, and her great grandchildren, Rylan and Keegan.
Vicki was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister Elizabeth, and brothers Wayne Jr. (Chris) and Jon Steven.
Words of comfort and support may be shared with the family at a visitation to be held Saturday, January 4, 2025, 1-3 pm at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel. A service honoring and celebrating Vicki’s life will follow at 3 pm. Committal prayer and burial will be in Oak View Cemetery in Albia, IA at a later date.
