Vernon G. Sumpter, 86, of Moberly, MO passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born May 23, 1938 in Higbee, MO to Wayland Spencer and Cora Mae (Coliver) Sumpter.
Vernon married Nina Sue Neal, July 5, 1960. He had attended Renick school and was a member of Fairview Christian Church. He had worked in the Laborers Union for 35 years and retired from Williams Keepers in Columbia, MO. He was an avid hunter and fishermen and enjoyed all outdoor activities including trapping and looking for arrowheads. Vernon was a true example of a hard working, honest man and was also very quick-witted and funny.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a daughter, Shauna Hoefelman, a grandson Cole Hoefelman, a sister, Elnora Dunkin and brothers, Billy, Gerald, Russell, Wayland, and Adrian Sumpter.
Vernon is survived by his children, Dean Sumpter and his wife Lisa of Moberly, MO, Tony Sumpter and his wife Margene of Ashland, MO, Lana Willingham and her husband Eric of Moberly, MO; 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren, a brother, Jackie Sumpter and his wife Ruth, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. .

Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation, that was held in the Cater Funeral Home Chapel, followed by funeral services honoring and celebrating Mr. Sumpter’s life . Committal prayer and burial took place at the Fairview Cemetery.
