Vernon Sanner, 73, of Jacksonville, passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2023. He was born, February 27, 1950, in Monroe County, to the union of Earl and Rosine (Snodgrass) Sanner.
Vernon was drafted into the United States Army and served in combat infantry. He was awarded a Purple Heart January 8,1971, for wounds received in action in the Republic of Vietnam. Vernon also received medals for Vietnam Service, expert rifle M-16 sharpshooter, and National Defense Service. He received an honorable discharge January 1,1976. Prior to retirement Vernon owned and operated dump trucks for many years. He loved working on his place making it beautiful, like a park, enjoyed antique cars, garage sales, but most of all he loved being a grandpa.
He married Susan Monnig,November 19, 1977, in Moberly and she survives. Also surviving are his children, Laura Turner and her husband Jamie, of Bevier, Kevin Shaver and his wife Allison, of Monroe, MI, David Sanner of Jacksonville, and John Sanner and his fiancé Ann of Moberly, 7 grandchildren, Lindsay, Rachel, Holden, Savannah, Brayden, Grayson, and Amber, 2 great grandchildren Scarlett and Juniper, brothers, Harold Sanner and his wife Beverly, of Moberly, and Bobby Sanner and his partner Sandy, of Holiday, a sister, Mary Minnis of Eastsound, WA., nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Lenora Kraft and Marie Palmer, and a brother, Raymond Sanner.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Mo or your local food bank.
Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation that was held in the Cater Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services celebrating and honoring Vernon’s life followed. Military Honors, committal prayer and burial took place at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville.
