Obituary

Shirley Jo Snodgrass, 87, of Moberly, formally of Huntsville, MO, passed away Monday, March 24, 2025, at Boone Hospital in Columbia, MO.  She was born Shirley Jo  Poe, November 21, 1937, and was raised by her mother, Nelva Heifner (Blew) and Stepfather, Howard Heifner.  On June 2, 1956, she married Ronald Dell Snodgrass in Huntsville, MO.

In her early years she was a telephone switchboard operator here in Moberly.  Later she was a cook for the Moberly School District where she loved to serve the kids her famous baked rolls and cookies.

She loved cooking and made countless delicious meals for her family.  She loved gardening and raised bushels of vegetables for her family.  She loved sewing and crocheting.  She made beautiful quilts and afghans for her sons, grandsons, and granddaughters. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandkids.  When her grandsons were growing up, she was known to be a pretty good backyard wiffleball pitcher.

She loved Jesus and regularly attended Church and Bible Study throughout her life.  She was a devoted mother, mother-in-law and grandmother who in her final hours asked each one of her loved ones if they had taken Jesus as their Savior.  She wanted to make sure she saw them all again in heaven someday.

She was a sweet, kind, and compassionate soul that spent her life caring for others.

Surviving are her four sons, Joey Dell Snodgrass and wife Joan (Perry), David Dean Snodgrass and wife Sharon (Hunsaker), Douglas Eugene Snodgrass and  wife Kathy (Marino) and Jeffery Scott Snodgrass and wife Vicky (Embree) all of Moberly.  Six grandchildren, Devin and wife Jamie (Hutchinson) Snodgrass of Moberly, Derek and wife Miranda (Plassmeyer) Snodgrass of Paducah, KY, Ryan Snodgrass of Holts Summit, MO,  Trent and wife Stephanie (Turner) Snodgrass of Ashland, MO,  Faith Snodgrass and Hope Snodgrass of Moberly.  Six great-grandchildren, Bailee, Lauryn and Hayden Snodgrass of Moberly, Emmalyn, Finley and Colbie Snodgrass of Ashland, MO along with two brothers-in-law, Delmar Snodgrass and wife Ruth (Dunkin) of Callao, MO, Dennis Snodgrass and wife Kay (McCreery) (Delaney) of Moberly along with other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather (Howard and Nelva Heifner), husband Ronald Snodgrass and great granddaughter, Dainie.

Her family would like to thank the Owners, Staff and Residents of Mark Twain Assisted Living for helping her these last couple of years.  A special thank you goes out to Lela Bangle for being her friend and helping her through some of the challenging times there.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her name be made to any local Children’s Charity organization of your choosing.

Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitationh held at the Cater Funeral Home, followed by Funeral Services honoring and celebrating Shirley’s life, graveside at the Oakland Cemetery.  Committal prayer and burial followed.
