Shirley Hendrix

Shirley Hendrix, 84, of Clark, passed away, Friday, January 26, 2024.  She was born July 4, 1939 to the union of Albert and Loretta (Bardelmeier) Henke in Moro, IL.

Shirley was born and raised on a dairy farm in Moro, IL.  During her first marriage she helped operate a grain and cattle farm.  She then completed her GED and became a real estate broker. This led her to finding her forever home on 20 acres that she independently purchased.  Her love for farming continued and she raised many game birds and ostriches, peacocks, guineas, chickens and goats.  She enjoyed hunting deer, fishing, gardening, decorating/painting ostrich eggs, making her own clothes,  and sewing wedding dresses.  She was hard working and full of strength and spirit.  Shirley was an avid traveler and took numerous trips.  She was a member of Hallsville Chapter of Red Hats and a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Moberly.  She loved her family, farming, gardening and life.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Hendrix, children Carma Klenke of Clark, Roy Klenke and his wife Lisa of Columbia, Gary Klenke and fiancé Misty Rouse of Sturgeon, 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Judy Jackson of Edwardsville, Il, Diane Lynch of Dorsey, Il, nieces, nephews, daughter in law, Patty Klenke Harris, other relatives and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, sons, Rex Allen Klenke and Ray Klenke and a daughter Kay Klenke.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials to The American Cancer Society.

Words of comfort and support may be shared with the family at a visitation to be held Tuesday, January 30, 2024, 3-4 pm at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel.  Services honoring and celebrating Shirley’s life will follow at 4 pm.  A private committal  prayer and burial will take place at a later date.
