Edna Rozelle Lyon Roush-Pollard, 101, of Columbia formerly of the Huntsville area, passed away at the Arbors at Mill Creek Village, Columbia, August 3, 2023. Rozelle was born, March 3, 1922 in Huntsville, Missouri, to the union of Franklin Randolph and Mabel (Huntsman) Lyon.
Rozelle’s father worked for FHA which caused him to move his family to various places as she was growing up. She lived in Huntsville, Cairo, and Rolla where she graduated from high school in 1939. After graduation, Rozelle worked for a short time at the Brown Shoe Factory in Moberly, Missouri, before obtaining a position with Civil Service in Indianapolis, Indiana. In January of 1942, Rozelle met a young Marine, Kenneth C. Roush from Frankfort, Indiana, stationed in Indianapolis. They were married March 21st. On January 28, 1943, a daughter was born, Celia Jean Roush.
Rozelle was very adaptive to living her husband’s military life as she loved to travel. By now, he had joined the US Army. During her years of marriage, she lived in St. Louis, Missouri; Frankfort, Indiana; Lebanon, PA; Heilbronn, Germany; Columbia, Missouri; back to Indianapolis, where Rozelle gave birth to another daughter, Julie Anne Roush, on April 8, 1962. Shortly after Julie was born, they were transferred to Richmond, Indiana. While living in Richmond, her husband, Kenneth, retired from the US Army and passed away on August 15, 1965. Rozelle returned to Columbia to be near her parents in Cairo. On September 6, 1994, Rozelle married long-time friend from Moberly, Billie Pollard, until his passing, October 12, 1997.
Rozelle and her traveling companion and best friend, Mildred Gilbert from Indianapolis, loved to travel all over the United States. They did so for many years each summer. She also took tours to various countries which she thoroughly enjoyed.
Rozelle is survived by her daughters, C. Jean Hough of Columbia, MO, and Julie Anne Roush of Frankfort, KY. Grandchildren, Kenneth Charles (Dawn Marie) Hough of Columbia; Michael Edward (Wendy Ann) Hough of Columbia; great grandchildren: Kevin Michael Hough of Honolulu, HI; Christian Michael (Elizabeth) Hough of Ashland, MO; Katherine Jean Hough of Columbia; Kaitlin Kristine (Matthew) McVey of Peoria, IL; great great granddaughters: Georgia Kate and Olivia Stirling Hough of Ashland, MO; great great grandsons Graham and Rogan McVey, Peoria, IL Also, several nieces and nephews.
Those who preceded her in death were her husbands Kenneth C Roush and Billie Pollard; her parents, a brother Franklin R. Lyon, Jr., son-in-law, George P. Hough, and other relatives.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Central Missouri Food Bank, the Central Missouri Humane Society, or the Arbors at Mill Creek Village, all of Columbia, Mo., would be appreciated.
Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation that was held at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel, Funeral services honoring Rozelle’s life followed. Committal prayer and burial (next to her late husband, Kenneth) took place at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville.
