Roy Allen Hammons, 81, of Moberly, Missouri, passed away, Sunday, July 16, 2023, at his home in Moberly. He was born September 24, 1941, in Daisy, Kentucky, to Travis and Clara Elizabeth (Martin) Hammons.
Prior to retirement, he worked as a Quality Engineer for Dura in Moberly.
On April 2, 1960 Roy married Maxine Nadine Lane in the Darksville Baptist Church in Darksville, Missouri. He and Maxine owned and operated Hammons Grocery in Huntsville, Missouri for many years. Maxine preceded him in death in 2007. Also preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Bob and Gene, and three sisters, Ada, Donna, and Lois.
Survivors include his children, Dwight Hammons and Kathy Hammons Nickerson, and her husband, Ronnie, all of Moberly, Missouri, five grandchildren, Erica Peart of Ashland, Missouri, Amber Simms of Hartsburg, Missouri, Corey Hammons of North Liberty, Iowa, Ronald Nickerson, Jr., and Jonathan Nickerson both of Moberly, Missouri, five great-grandchildren, Carson, Natalie, Brooklynne, Jonny, and Kalani, a sister, Mary Stoner and husband, Eddie, of Moberly, Missouri, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Roy was a member of the North Park Baptist Church and was attending King James Baptist Church in Moberly. He enjoyed serving as a Sunday school teacher for many years.
He loved his family, his church, and spending time with his wife. He and his wife enjoyed dancing, traveling the United States, Mexico, and especially, Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri. He enjoyed collecting stamps, moonlight drives, working on his local “hobby” farm, and reading, especially his Bible.
Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation that was held at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services honoring Roy’s life followed. Committal prayer and burial took place in Oakland Cemetery.
