Obituary

Roy Darvin Dale, 82 of Cairo let go of our hands and grabbed the hand of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on November 16, 2023.  His earthly journey ended surrounded by his loving family.

Roy was born January 9, 1941 to Roy R. Dale and Lillian A. (Colley) Dale in Huntsville, Missouri.  On July 11, 1958 he married the love of his life, Opal Corene Mitchell and together they raised three children. Kevin Dale (Liz) of Huntsville, Missouri, Robin Guile (Ben) of Clark, Missouri and Jason Dale (Sharon) of Hohenwald, Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Lillian Dale, In-laws James and Hertha Mitchell, granddaughter Mikki Dale, grandsons Abel Dale and Hunter Dale.

He was blessed with eleven grandchildren: Leah (Aaron) McKenzie, Jacob (Brittany) Dale, Kalob (Kaitlee) Dale, Kolby Dale, Krystle (Adam) Melloway, Jonah Guile, Kaitlynn (Tyler) Rasmussen, Melissa (Nelson) Dale, Daphne (Shane) Harris, Tiffany Taylor and Roger (Shelby) Taylor. One of his most favorite past times was traveling to all the sporting events that his grandchildren participated in.

He also had sixteen great grandchildren. His sister and brother in laws are Erma Jean (Carl) Armstrong and Leslie (Connie) Mitchell.

Roy worked hard all of his life, beginning his career as a diesel mechanic with Orschlen Motor and Equipment.  He then furthered his career as Superintendent of Orschlen Brothers Truck Lines. His next adventure was with Ansco where he was a boom welder during the construction of Thomas Hill Energy Center draglines.  He was recruited to the Thomas Hill Mining division as truck and tractor foreman over the scrapers and dozers.  He finished his career as master mechanic over the draglines, retiring after 20 years of service.  Roy then joined Moberly Motors as an auto mechanic for the last 7 years of employment.

Roy was an avid hunter, never missing a Missouri deer season and making yearly trips to Colorado during Elk season.  He enjoyed camping and traveling with Corene as his copilot.  They were blessed to visit Alaska on two occasions as well as Hawaii. Their camping adventures took them all over the United States visiting many National Parks.

Roy is a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and served as an ordained deacon.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to the American Lung Association at action.lung.org.

Words of comfort and support may be shared with the family at the visitation, which will be, Sunday, November 19, 2023, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Cater Funeral Home. Services honoring and celebrating Roy’s life will be held Monday, November 20, 2023, 1:00 p.m. at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel. Committal prayer and burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery.
