Obituary

Roxanna Kay Nickerson, 76, of Madison, MO, passed away peacefully at her home on May 1, 2025. Born June 21, 1948, in Columbia, MO, she was the daughter of the late Claude Ernest Wheeler and Garnett Williamson Freeman. Roxanna was united in marriage to Donald Ray Nickerson Sr. on July 28, 1962, and together they built a life full of love and cherished memories until his passing.

A member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Roxanna was known for her kindness, generosity, and faith. Her life was dedicated to family, and she took great joy in being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Roxanna was blessed with a large, close-knit family that will continue to honor her legacy for generations to come.Roxanna spent the majority of her life in the Moberly, Missouri area, where she was deeply rooted in her community and cherished her family above all. A passionate cook, avid reader, and loyal fan of Kansas City Chiefs football, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, and Mizzou Tigers basketball, Roxanna lived life with heart and enthusiasm. She and her husband shared a love for coaching their children in softball and baseball, earning admiration both on and off the field. Known far and wide for her exceptional culinary talents, Roxanna ran the beloved family catering business, Kreative Katering. Alongside her husband, she also co-owned and operated several local businesses, including Moberly Distributing and 7800 Taxi, contributing generously to the fabric of the community she loved. 

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Ray Nickerson Sr.; her parents, Claude and Dottie Wheeler and Garnett and Walter Freeman; her in-laws, Walter and Helen Nickerson; her daughter, Brenda Fletcher; her son, Darrell Nickerson; her son-in-law, Don Fletcher; her grandson, Don Curtis Fletcher; great-grandson; Braxton Roberts as well as her siblings Dorothy Miller, Terry Wheeler, and Thressea Moss.

Roxanna is survived by her children: Lori Humphrey (Perry) of Columbia, MO; Pam Renzelmann (Kevin) of Moberly, MO; Rhonda Colley (James) of Harrisburg, MO; Rae Bennett (Larkin) of Madison, MO; Donald Nickerson Jr. (LeaAnn) of Moberly, MO; and Bruce Hendren of Madison, MO. She is also survived by her siblings Cathy Justus, Donna Wray (Claire), and Debbie Inskip.

Her surviving grandchildren include Jessica Gatlin (Tim), CJ Humphrey (Autum), Hillary Flood, Haley Renzelmann (Erika), Kayla Cline (Jon), Kimberly Sanders, Tyler Bennett (Allie), Keleigh Roberts (Brad), Austin Nickerson (Allena), Derrick Nickerson (Kelcey), Tori Nickerson (Cole), Peyton Nickerson, and Kensie Nickerson. Her great-grandchildren, Dylan Fletcher, Taylor Fletcher, Patrick Gatlin, Korbin Flood, Gabrielle Strickland, Riley Humphrey, Natalee Cline, Alayna Cline, Brady Sanders, Addie Bennett, Lanie Bennett, Avery Bennett, Rhett Roberts, and Nora Roberts.

Roxanna was extremely blessed with a large and loving extended family, including her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who all hold her memory in their hearts.

Funeral Services honoring and celebrating Roxanna Kay's life were held Graveside per her wishes at the Oakland Cemetery   Committal prayer and burial followed.
