Richard Cecil Furgason II, of Moberly, MO, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 54, Friday, December 12, 2025. He was born September 17, 1971, to Richard “Dick” Furgason Sr and Linda (Gravitt) Furgason in Moberly, MO. Richard attended Moberly Public School and graduated in May 1990.
He married Krystal (Auten) Furgason May 21, 2016, and became a stepfather to Madison Green, Warrensburg, MO, and Morgan (Ethan) Parrott, Knob Noster, MO. Throughout his marriage, Richard became a father figure to many people he supported, including Alexandra, Crystal, Stephanie, Tyler, Ryan, and Trenton. He was called “Honey” by two beautiful children, Liana and Josie, who saw him as a Grandpa. He is survived by his wife and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Richard was preceded in death by his father, mother, and many other relatives.
Richard worked a variety of jobs early in his career, eventually landing with the Army Corps of Engineers, and he enjoyed numerous job opportunities in southern U.S. states. He returned to Moberly and worked as a Sergeant at the Moberly Correctional Center for 10 years, then quit to help support people with developmental disabilities through Palmer’s Home Care of Columbia, MO. He had a big heart and working with his “peeps” gave him a sense of purpose for his life.
Richard had a keen sense of humor and loved teasing others in a fun way. He enjoyed camping and traveling and made it a priority to do both as much as possible. Richard was able to mark many items off his “bucket list” while traveling. His greatest joy was taking his friends with disabilities and his grandbabies with him on all his adventures and watching them enjoy themselves. Richard loved collecting coins and clocks and would look for these treasures wherever he travelled. Football was his obsession in the fall and winter, and he was an avid KC Chiefs fan.
While his absence will be deeply felt, his warmth, humor, and adventurous spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Lifetime Services of Missouri, Inc., which supports people with developmental disabilities.
Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation held at the First Assembly of God Church, followed by a funeral service honoring Mr. Furgason's life.. Committal prayer and burial took place at the Memorial Park Cemetery.
