Pat McMahon, 84, of Higbee, Missouri died on Friday, January 17, 2025, at home on his beloved farm.
Pat was born June 10, 1940, and raised in New Rochelle, New York where he lived for thirty-five years. Pat’s early career was spent as an engineer at MRC until he founded his own company, Film Vac Inc. in 1971. He proudly pioneered sputtering technology and held four patents on his designs. During his thirty years in Bergen County, New Jersey, Pat was famous among his friends and business associates for hosting his weekly luncheons at Film Vac. Upon retirement, Pat moved to Higbee, Missouri and spent his last eighteen years among beloved neighbors and friends who accepted a yankee as one of their own. His afternoons spent enjoying his backyard pool and serving margaritas were certainly some of his favorite moments. Pat was known to all as a passionate grill master, talented woodworker, curious physicist, fixer of nearly anything and most importantly, a friend to anyone in need.
Pat was the beloved father of his two daughters, Rosemary McMahon-Ying and Maura McMahon. Pat loved his role as “Pop” to Justin Schmolling, Andrew O’Meara, Gwen Doran O’Meara, Griffin Ying and his adopted grandson, Aaron Bressman. Pat will always be remembered as the remarkable “Uncle Pat” by Jim McMahon, Tom McMahon, Michael McMahon and Mary Pat Leinhart. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Jeanne McMahon and son in law Jack Ying, DVM.
Pat is predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Rose McMahon born of Castleblaney, Ireland and his brothers Michael John McMahon, Edward McMahon and Thomas McMahon.
Words of comfort and support may be shared with the family at a visitation to be held Friday, January 24, 2025, 4-6 pm at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel to be followed by a service celebrating and honoring Pat’s life.
Following the service, a gathering in Pat’s name will be held at Marc & Bri Hess’ barn at 2891 County Rd 2580 in Higbee, MO.
