On Sunday, February 16, 2025, Norma J. Hunsaker 93 years of age passed on. She was loved so much and will be missed by everyone.
Norma Jean Hunsaker was born January 3, 1932, in Edina, MO to Mable (Davis) and Jesse Bishop. She was the youngest of five children. Norma grew up on the family farm outside of Edina in Knox County.
On March 29, 1953, Norma married Robert “Bob” L. Hunsaker of Baring, MO, They had three children – Garry L. Hunsaker of Mexico, MO, Diana J. Wemhoff (Bruce) of Moberly and Denise Hunsaker of St. Louis, MO.
Norma worked for a dentist. She, like her mother, was a very good cook, and Norma cooked for public schools. Norma was also a coach for a girl’s summer softball team and a Girl Scout troop leader. She loved vegetable and flower gardening.
Norma and Bob liked camping with family and friends. Making s’mores on an open fire was one of her favorites. They also liked traveling, visiting state and national parks. After retiring they began wintering in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. They stayed along the Arroyo Colorado River where they boated and fished. They enjoyed being with friends they made in Texas and dining out, listening to music, dancing, sightseeing and traveling the area including trips to Mexico. Norma loved Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge, where she would watch birds, wildlife and look for Ocelots. Norma also enjoyed walking the beaches of South Padre Island where she searched for seashells. She loved dogs and had several throughout the years, all who brought her and Bob companionship and joy.
Norma enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren!
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, four siblings Noble Bishop of Edina, MO, Clara Calaway of Phoenix, Arizona, Wilber Bishop of Booneville, MO, and Holland Bishop of Edina, MO. Her son Garry Hunsaker of Mexico, MO, her daughter Diana and son-in-law Bruce Wemhoff of Moberly, MO.
Norma is survived by her husband Robert Hunsaker of Moberly, MO; her daughter Denise Hunsaker of St. Louis, MO. Her grandchildren Kimberly (Aaron) Gibson of Columbia, MO, Jessica (Jordan) Morris of Moberly, MO, Shannon (Stephanie) Orschlen of Moberly, Leslie Wemhoff of Moberly, MO and Fancy Wemhoff of Moberly. Great grandchildren Taylor McCoy (Davis Walter), Jaden Gibson, Gracie Gibson, Tristan Morris, Landon Morris, Brinley Morris, Chase Orschlen, Carson Orschlen, Caiden Orschlen, Hayden Wemhoff, Lonnie Wedding, Carter Duncan, Cadance White and Parker Clickner. Great great grandchildren Silus Walter, Ashton Walter and Brealyn Walter.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation, held at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel, followed by funeral services honoring and celebrating Norma’s life. . Committal prayer and burial took place in Oakland Cemetery.
