Obituary

Mary Beth Robertson, 62, of Columbia, Missouri, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 26th, 2024, lovingly surrounded by her family.

Mary leaves behind her daughter Katlyn (Matt) McMahill, sister Beverly (Bob) Blair, sister Sharon Crosswhite, brother Curt (Melanie) Everhart, sister Catherine Everhart, brother Steve (Tracey) Miller, her beloved fur babies Luke and Balto, and many dear nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mary was greeted in Heaven by her loving mother and father and brother-in-law Steve Crosswhite.

Mary was born on November 3rd, 1962, in Moberly, Missouri, to Donald Robertson and Virginia Kemper. Mary was blessed to have five adoring siblings. Her four older siblings fondly remember when she was born, and later getting to take care of her alongside their mother and grandparents, Phil and Mary Kemper. Her innate ability to love and nurture, would in turn guide her youngest brother as he was growing up, and would lead to a lifelong mission of caring for both people and the many dogs she would have throughout her life.  As a child, Mary was described as a beautiful joy to have around. She was a quiet, shy child who especially loved to spend time with her grandparents. Mary was a graduate from Moberly High School, and she would eventually plant her roots in Columbia, Missouri.

Upon moving to Columbia, she began her nearly thirty-year career at U.S. Cellular. Her dedicated work ethic would take her from a position in the retail store to several different marketing management positions. On August 11th, 1994, Mary would begin her greatest role by welcoming her daughter Katlyn, who would bring out her true meaning in life, being a mother. From an early age, Mary and Katlyn spent many days walking together to their favorite park, always incorporating dreamsicles into their plans. As the years continued, the pair would prioritize quality time with one another, whether on family vacations or watching Cardinals’ baseball games, both live and on TV along with her mother, Virginia. Mary’s heart and house were always open to share and host with friends and family both near and far. If you were lucky enough to be hosted by Mary, then you knew from that point forward, it was an open invitation to a homecooked meal, a load of laundry, and good conversation.

Mary’s life and legacy will be remembered by her admirable role as a mother to Katlyn. Mary was Katlyn’s biggest cheerleader throughout her life. Of everything that she accomplished, being Katlyn’s mother was her biggest joy and deepest purpose. Mary and Katlyn have a bond that cannot be broken and share an everlasting love.

Mary’s life will be remembered at a visitation service held at Cater Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Great Pyrenees Rescue of Missouri. More information and a link to donate can be found at www.gprescue.com.
