Obituary

Marjorie L. “Marge” Mattson, 90, of Moberly, died Thursday April 2, 2020. She was born December 19, 1929 in Independence, MO to Percy and Ida (Klausmeier) Green.

Prior to retirement she had been a youth worker.

She married Rev. Donald E. Mattson on August 26, 1950 in Independence, MO and he preceded her in death on November 12, 2013. Also preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Thomas and Harold Green.

Survivors include her children; Jan Remley and husband Ron of Kearney, MO, Julie Tibbles and husband Jim of Panora, IA and Dr. Jon Mattson and his wife Joanne of Blue Springs, MO, seven grandchildren; Shane Remley and wife Jennifer, Megan Laws and husband Kellen, Michael Tibbles and wife Abigail, Steven Tibbles and wife Jordan, Ali Crowley and husband Ryan and Molly and Alexis Mattson, seven great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Marge was very active in her family, community, and church life. She was a dedicated servant to the church. Alongside her husband, Don, they ministered four congregations. Marge loved to organize activities that helped develop young Christians’ faith and character. One of her proudest accomplishments was establishing and building a new church in Florissant, Missouri.

When she wasn’t at church, Marge was an avid sports fan. She loved to cheer on the Mizzou Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs. After retirement, one of her biggest joys was to watch her grandkids at all of their activities. From volleyball, softball, baseball, and golf, she didn’t miss a season.

In her last years, Marge moved from Moberly to Liberty to be closer to family. She made many new friends at the Oxford Grand Retirement Community.  Along with making friends, Marge got to spend more time with her great-grandchildren which she often referred to as “the icing on the cake.”

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Donald and Marge Mattson Scholarship Fund at the Huntsville Christian Church would be appreciated.

Services honoring Marge’s life were held at the Oakland Cemetery, burial followed.
