Obituary

Marilyn Ruth (Dow) Merry of Moberly, passed away Friday, January 1, 2021. Her husband Philip W Merry, passed away a week earlier on December 26, 2020. Marilyn Merry was born June 28, 1932 in Poughkeepsie NY to parents Frank Warren and Ruth Leola (Polhemus) Dow.

Marilyn Is survived by daughter Patricia Dallas-Johnston (Terry) of Wood Heights MO, Catherine Pogue (James) of Independence MO; four grandchildren: Joshua Dallas (Felicia) Pleasant Hill MO, Brianna Dallas-Young (Riley) Shawnee KS, Sara Pogue and Dylan Pogue, both of Independence MO; 3 step-grandchildren; brothers Warren Dow (Marie) of Poughkeepsie NY brother Richard Dow (Carol) of Debary FL, brother in law Joseph Merry of Whispering Pines NC, and 5 nieces and nephews. 

Marilyn attended the University of New York State College for Teachers at Albany NY and after graduation in 1954 she taught French and Latin. Marilyn and Philip met while residing in the same boarding house.

Marilyn Ruth Dow and Philip Warner Merry married on July 11, 1959 in Poughkeepsie NY and eventually the family moved to Moberly in 1971. Marilyn attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Moberly where she became a member of the United Methodist Womens group. She volunteered for several years in the church office helping with the church newsletter. Marilyn was also a member of the Sorosis group. She enjoyed playing in a monthly bridge group with her friends. Marilyn’s hobbies included reading, golf, needlepoint and crossstitch, crochet and knitting. She was a sewer and eventually turned her sewing skills into quilt making.

A private viewing and visitation was held in the Cater Funeral Home Chapel followed by words honoring Marilyn’s life at the Ressurection Mausoleum prior to Committal prayer and entombment by her husband.
