Obituary

Marilyn Jean Carpenter, 85, of Moberly, passed away November 7, 2021. She was born January 9, 1936 in Moberly to Floyd and Susie (Devenport) Pagett.

She married Herb Carpenter, October 20, 1957 and he preceded her in death, October 25, 1998. Also preceding her in death were her parents.

She is survived by her three children; Kevin Carpenter and his wife Janet of Washington, MO, Kerry Carpenter and his wife Laura of St. Louis, MO and Kim Gittemeier of Moberly, MO and Matt Gittemeier of Jacksonville, MO seven grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Marilyn graduated from Moberly High School and Moberly Junior College. Initially she worked at J.C Nichols in Kansas City. There she met her future husband Herb and they were united in marriage at First Baptist Church in Moberly. Marilyn and Herb were happily married for 41 years until he passed. They lived in Neosho, MO, La Porte, Indiana, and Moberly, MO. While in Indiana, she helped start a new church that still exists today. She enjoyed playing the piano and was the church pianist in Indiana. Marilyn was very active in the First Baptist Church, serving on several committees and groups. She especially loved her quilting and missionary groups. Marilyn and Herb traveled all over the world. She lived in Saudi Arabia for a year. She also traveled to all 50 states. Her greatest pleasure was her family. She loved spending time with her kids and grandkids.  

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or Missouri Baptist Children Home.

Words of comfort and support were shared with the family during a visitation at the Cater Funeral Home. Services honoring and celebrating  Marilyn’s life were held in the First Baptist Church. Committal prayer and burial followed at the Memorial Park Cemetery.
