Marie Farris

Marie (Bates) Farris, 93, of Moberly, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2020.  She was born November 5, 1927 to Otis and Nellie (Clark) Bates in rural Randolph County.

Marie married Charles Emerson Farris on November 5, 1945 and he preceded her in death on May 11, 2000. They were married for 54 years.

Also preceding Marie in death were her parents, son in laws: Harry Harrison and Vernon Shannon, as well as a brother Lester Bates, and four sisters: Ethyl Hyatt, Margie Jordan, Mildred Berkley, and Helen Lunceford.

Nana is survived by children and spouses: Irene and Richard Smoot of Mt Zion, IL, Tom and Jolene Farris, and Margie Shannon both of Moberly, six grandchildren including Terra Skinner whom she raised, seven great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Donnie Bates of Texas, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Prior to retirement, Marie worked many years at Midwest Linen in Moberly. Her main love and interest was always with her family. She loved visits from her grandchildren and was a wonderful grandmother to them all.

Services honoring Marie’s life were held in the Cater Funeral Home Chapel. Committal prayer and entombment followed at the Resurrection Mausoleum.
