Obituary

Louis Charles “Chuck” Eckelmann III, 80, of Moberly, MO, passed away Sunday, December 28, 2025. He was born in Van Buren, MO on Current River to Lou and Marilynn Eckelmann. He lived in Iowa and Los Angeles throughout his school years before returning to Van Buren to graduate high school.

Louis joined the US Navy in the mid-60s and served proudly for 4 years prior to receiving his Honorable Discharge. He was a medic on a Landing Ship Dock, LSD, near the coast of Vietnam.

Louis came to Randolph County selling goods to local stores all around central Missouri. He lived in Huntsville until 1980 when he moved to Moberly where he lived the rest of his life. Soon after moving here, Louis became a brakeman with the Wabash Railroad, where he worked for 18 years. In 1990, he started his own business, “Mr. Trim”, where he worked until retirement repairing interiors of vehicles for various car dealerships in the area.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two of his three siblings, David Eckelmann and Dixie Thomas. Louis is survived by his wife Carrie Eckelmann, who he married in 2007; his brother Gary Eckelmann and wife Jan; son Chet Eckelmann; two stepsons Keith and Scott Holman, who he loved as his own; his grandchildren including Andrew Eckelmann and his wife Brianna, Trent Lovett, Tyler and Partrick Holman, Hayden Dearing, Melissa Burke and her son Grant. He is also survived by various nieces, nephews and honorary family members, Tommy Gibbs, Jake Halloway and Georgia Thornburg.

Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation held at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel, followed by funeral services and military honors, honoring Chuck’s life. A private inurnment will be held at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery Columnbarium at a later date.
