LeRoy Battaglio, 84, of Madison passed away Friday, January 30, 2026. He was born in St. Joseph Missouri, September 30, 1941.
He was adopted by his aunt and uncle, Antonio and Erma Battaglio, and moved to Lodi, California. When he was in his twenties, he joined the military and was stationed in Germany, where he started writing letters to a young woman, Maria.
LeRoy and Maria married January 9, 1965, after LeRoy took leave to come see her in New York. They lived together until her passing in 2016. They had five children and lived in several states in their life together, New York, California, Arizona, Mississippi and Missouri. After receiving an honorable discharge, LeRoy worked as a security guard, he loved to tinker in his shop on a variety of projects.
LeRoy and Maria Battaglio are survived by two sons, Joseph Battaglio of Madison MO and Tony Battaglio and his wife Alma of Milton, FL, and two daughters, Kim Sharitt and Edith Ensor and her husband Matt Ensor, all of Holliday MO. Eleven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service and Military Honors honoring LeRoy’s life will be Saturday, March 28, 2026, 11:00 AM, at the Good Shepard Mausoleum in the Oakland Cemetery, inurnment will follow.
