Larry Wayne Nelson, 77, of Moberly, MO, passed away Friday, May 3, 2024. He was born April 5, 1947, in Moberly, MO, to the union of Howard and Edna (Reffett) Nelson at home on the kitchen table.
Larry graduated from Moberly High School with the Class of 1966. Upon completion he joined the United States Navy. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy in 1972, he was a self-employed businessman. His first business was Nelly’s Tiny Tap in Huntsville in 1976. In 1979 they moved the business to Community Lanes as Nelly’s Red Vest. 1981 to 2021 they built and ran Nelly’s/Someplace Else on Urbandale/M in Moberly.
Larry always enjoyed participating in and watching sports, going to the boat, but most of all spending time with his boys. Nothing was better than Football Sundays eating chili dogs or homemade meals with his boys and their friends, then continued with his grandsons!!
Larry is survived by his wife, Sheryl, of the home whom he married March 20,1971, 2 sons, Dion Nelson and wife, Rehnada, of Colorado Springs, CO, and Chad Nelson of Moberly, MO, two grandchildren Chase and Cale Nelson, sisters, Sandy and husband Randy Dunivent of Salisbury, MO, Barbara and husband James Eckenrode of Clifton Hill, MO, an aunt, Doris Nelson, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Atom Christopher Nelson, a brother, Howard Ray Nelson, and a niece, Jennifer Jo McCoy.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to the American Heart Association.
Words of comfort and support may be shared with the family during a visitation to be held Tuesday May 7, 2024, 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services celebrating and honoring Larry's life will follow at 1:00 P.M. concluding with Full Military Honors.
Everyone is invited to Larry ‘s celebration of life immediately after services at The Lodge in Rothwell Park.
