Joyce Eileen (Creed) Nelson,75, affectionally known as “Grandma Sam”, of Moberly, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2024, after a battle with cancer. She was born June 25, 1949, in Moberly to Don and Betty (Briscoe) Creed.
She was united in marriage to Alan Nelson, September 1, 1965. She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, watching hummingbirds, reading, sewing, visiting the Amish community, the casino, and attending the Missouri State Fair. She will always be known for her helpful nature and never met a stranger.
Joyce is survived by her children, Jason and Lisa Nelson, of Jacksonville, Toni and Greg Alwes, of Greenville, Dawn and Bobby Dyer, Wendy and Les McKenney, Jenny and (Greg) Nelson and Justin Nelson all of Moberly, 21 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, two brothers Ralph Creed of Georgetown, TX , Dan and Lori Creed of Brunswick, a sister, Brenda and Rusty Baker of Centralia, sister in laws, Patti Creed of Hallsville, Karen Creed of Salado, TX, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, in laws, brothers, sister, grandson, and a great granddaughter.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Run for Life or the Cristo Center.
Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation held at the Cater Funeral Home. Funeral services honoring and celebrating Joyce’s life were held at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel. Committal prayer and burial took place in the Oakland Cemetery.
