Obituary

Jerry Wayne Kirkendoll Sr., born on January 17, 1947, passed away from this life on March 7, 2025, at the Columbia Veterans hospital, peacefully surrounded by his family.  Jerry was born to Louis and Lee Kirkendoll of Moberly, Missouri.

As an ornery gentleman, he did not think school was meant for him, so he worked odd jobs, which led him to Oklahoma where he worked for his brother Art lying brick.  While in Oklahoma, he became smitten with his brother’s sister-in-law falling in love and married Betty Lavern Hood October 2, 1965.  They were married for 48 years until her death April 4, 2013. He enjoyed the outdoors with his companion Kathy, watching the hummingbirds fight over feeders and just sitting outside.  He loved to fish, play golf, and ride around on his side-by-side, and enjoyed his grandkids.  From 1966 to 1968 he served for the United States Army in Vietnam.  He worked as a brick mason for several years alongside his brother before moving back to Moberly, where he worked for his cousins and other companies around the area.  Finally able to retire, he still did odd jobs.

Jerry is survived by three adult children, Jerry Wayne Kirkendoll Jr., of Clifton Hill, MO, Tammy (Gene) Surber of Huntsville, MO, and Michael Kirkendoll (Jessica Hill) of Moberly, MO., his companion Kathy, two brothers Aubrey (Phillis) Kirkendoll of Sperry, OK, Perry (Paula) Kirkendoll of Moberly, MO, and one sister Vicki (Sam) Joles of Moberly, MO.  He is also survived by three grandchildren, Krissy (Aaron) Curry of Hallsville, MO, Aaron (Kenda) Kirkendoll, of Glenpool, OK, Shanna (Luke) Stone of Huntsville, MO., ten great-grandkids, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his parents, an infant son Timmy, and three brothers, Art, Everett, and Larry.

He would not want you to cry over him but drink a beer instead.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, to help other veterans.

Words of comfort and support may be shared with the family at a visitation to be held Thursday, March 13, 2025, 4-6 pm, at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel, to be followed by Military Honors and Funeral services honoring and celebrating Jerry’s life at 6 pm.  A private Committal will take place at a later date.
