Obituary

Jean (Fullington) Brooks, 102, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2025, surrounded by her family at Boone Hospital Center. She was born on August 18, 1922, in Randolph County, Missouri. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin and Sally Fullington, and was the youngest of seven siblings, all of whom have also passed away.

In March of 1938, she married Van Brooks of Clark, Missouri. Van preceded her in death in June of 1987. Together, they had four children, three of whom survive: Ronnie Brooks (and Shelley) of Clark, Bonny Bradley of Clark, and Lyndia Cottingham (and Charlie) of Moberly. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Betty (BJ) Brooks. Jean is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Jean retired from AB Chance Company in 1984 after more than 25 years of employment. Even after retirement, she continued to contribute to her family's income by selling antique jewelry, clocks, and furniture. She had booths at the Midway Antique Mall for many years and sold many of her products directly from her home to customers across the United States.

She had a passion for fishing, oil painting, making pickles, baking, cooking, playing cards, and traveling. One of her favorite pastimes was trading items, even if it was just for a small profit. Jean loved her family and her community, which extended well beyond Sturgeon. She was an active member of a large antique clock community, was cherished by the local Amish community, and had hundreds of friends throughout the country.

A devout Christian, Jean loved her family, friends, and neighbors deeply. She enjoyed entertaining, and any guest who visited her home would leave with a pie or cobbler and a jar of pickles or jam. Her kitchen was her sanctuary.

Jean will be terribly missed and was loved by all who knew her.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Sturgeon FFA.

Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation held, at Cater Funeral Home Chapel, followed by   Funeral services honoring and celebrating Jean’s life.  Committal prayer and burial took place in the Oakland Cemetery.
