James L. “Jim” Hendricks, 81, of Moberly, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2024. He was born, November 30, 1942, to the union of Frank “Leaman” and Frances (Gaines) Hendricks. Jim was a 1960 graduate of Northeast R-IV High School in Cairo, Missouri.
He married Kay Hess in 1964 and she survives of the home. Also surviving are his brother, Robert “Bob” Hendricks and his wife, Royann, of Moberly, his sister, Sharon DeMint and her husband Mike, of Cairo, nieces, nephews, other relatives including a brother-in-law, Rocky Vernon and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Shirley M. Vernon.
He served his country during the Vietnam era from 1966-1968 as a combat engineer prior to receiving a Honorable Discharge. He was a member of the Cairo Baptist Church and the NOMO Bow Hunting Club. Jim was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting for arrowheads, mushrooms, and wild game. He loved spending time with his family and friends, almost as much as he loved chocolate and fruitcake. Jim also enjoyed going to auctions and flea markets with his wife of 60 years, Kay.
In lieu of flowers memorials to the Cairo Baptist Church would be appreciated.
Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation that was held in the Cater Funeral Home Chapel, followed by Funeral Services honoring and celebrating Jim’s life. Military Honors were held at the conclusion of the Funeral services at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel. A private Committal prayer and burial took place at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville.
