James Gravitt, 92, of Moberly, MO, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2025, at the Harry S Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia, MO. He was born on September 8, 1933 in Randolph County, to Jack and Rosie Gravitt. James was joined in marriage to Erma Duncan in June of 1956.
James served in the Army from November 1953 through October 1955 then returned to Moberly and worked various jobs around town including those he held at Toastmaster, Diversified Plastics and Dura before retiring. In his spare time you could find him cutting wood or finding something to keep him busy. James was known for his kindness, strong work ethic and dedication to his family. He enjoyed fishing, being outside and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his son Tim Gravitt, sister Anna Jackson and brother Charles Gravitt, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to James Gravitt in c/o Central Bank, Moberly.
Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation held Monday, January 5, 2026, at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel, followed by funeral services honoring Mr. Gravitt. Military honors, committal prayer and burial took place at the Memorial Park Cemetery.
