Obituary

Howard Morgan Guthrie, 84, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, November 23, 2022. He was born August 12, 1938 in Moberly, Missouri to the late Charles and Sophia (Lewis) Guthrie.

On May 15, 1960, he married Joyce Ann Shaw, of that union they were blessed with three children: Michael Guthrie of Moberly MO, Christopher Guthrie of Moberly MO, Shelli Apel and husband John of Moberly MO. Howard and Joyce later divorced in 1988 but remained close friends.

Howard worked at Stampers feed, Clifton Hill MO Logging, Prather’s towing, and Everlast. Howard also drove a truck for many years. He delivered fuel, drove a flatbed truck, he also owned and operated the gas station/automotive shop in Cairo MO.

Howard enjoyed shooting pool and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the Eagles for many years. He loved chatting with everyone and telling his many stories. He loved watching Walker Texas Ranger, The Andy Griffith Show, The Heat of the Night, and any Western movies that came on, with his grandchildren. He spent many days riding around country roads with his nephew Mark Hunter, grandson Christopher, and granddaughter Jewell. Those two were inseparable, he loved all of his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his three children: Michael Guthrie, Christopher Guthrie, Shelli Apel and husband John, sisters Goldie Hunter, Tammy (Gene) Stahnke, 12 grandchildren: Brittney Apel (Chuck), Kristen Apel (James), Chelby Apel (Nicholas), Sonja Guthrie (Lee), Dilland Guthrie (Mandy), Jewell Guthrie, Christopher Guthrie, Kim Guthrie, Shawn Guthrie and wife Fallon, Jessica Barney, Janelle Copeland (Shawn), Jennifer Copeland, 23 great grandchildren: Dakota Apel, Kayden Nash, Carmen Guthrie, McKayla and Jaisten Payne, Alexis, Neveah, Molly, Hayden, Emmaline Guthrie, Teyton and Tiernan Guthrie, Denver Nation, Dalton Barney, Damien and Jaxon White, Maddison and Isabella Copeland-Blauvelt, Kendra and Chace Mundy, and Tatum Copeland.

He is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Sophia Guthrie, the love of his life Joyce Guthrie-Stoneking, three sisters Geraldine Sumpter, Margueritte Sumpter, Esther Bishop, brothers Oren Guthrie and Charles Guthrie, great grandsons Bradion and Bryce Copeland- Blauvelt, and great granddaughter Ellayna Wilson.

A memorial honoring Howards life will be held at a later date.
