Obituary

Harold “Dean” Butner, 94, of Moberly, passed away Monday, October 31, 2022.  He was born August 1, 1928 in Boulder CO to the union of Ray Hubble and Wilma (Hill) Butner.  He married Virginia Deane Gribbin, July 01, 1949, in Kansas City, KS and she preceded him in death October 27, 2018.  Also preceding him in death were his parents, 2 brothers, Kenneth and Vincil Butner and a sister Wilma Aitken.

He is survived by his children, Laura Dalsing and her husband, Dennis of San Antonio, TX, Brenda Cummings and her husband Pete, of Moberly, Joel Butner and his wife Patti of Asheville, NC, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dean grew up in Duncans Bridge, graduating from Clarence High school. He served as a Marine Military Police in Guam during WWII, prior to receiving a Honorable Discharge.  He then married the love of his life, Virginia, when he built a life together for 69 years.  He worked for TWA for 35 years and retired as a Senior Systems Analyst.  Over his lifetime he had an array of hobbies including restoring antique cars, furniture, and trunks.  He enjoyed playing the guitar and spending time with his 7 grandkids and 8 great grandkids.  He enjoyed collecting coffee tins, coins, pocket knives, and depression glass. He loved sharing memories of his life with others.  He was known for his famous cheese popcorn and love of chocolate. This proud veteran always had a smile on his face and a handshake to give.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Coyote Hill.

Words of comfort and support may be shared with the family, Saturday November 5, 2022, 9:30 am to 11:00 am at Perche Baptist Church, 20301 N. Perche Church Road, Clark, Mo. (5 miles North of Harrisburg on Rt F)  Services honoring Dean’s life will follow at 11:00 am., concluding with Military Honors.  Private committal prayer and burial will take place at the Missouri State Veteran Cemetery at a later date.
