Gerald L. “Jerry” Orr, 74, of Moberly passed away Thursday, February 6, 2025. He was born, December 11, 1950, in Moberly to parents James William “Dub” and Thelma (Moore) Orr, Sr.
Jerry spent his career as a dedicated railroad engineer, enjoying the hard work and camaraderie that came with it. He proudly served six years in the National Guard, earning an honorable discharge. Jerry was also member of Coates Street Presbyterian Church.
While Jerry liked to joke that watching TV was his only hobby, those who knew him best would say he was a storyteller at heart—whether it was a well-timed joke or a heartfelt memory. He had a way of making people laugh and bringing them together – in the living room with family, with friends at the local restaurant, or in the stands at a game. Jerry was a baseball fan; he dedicated years to coaching young athletes, from Optimist tee-ball through American Legion. His love for the sport was even more special because he shared it with his two sons, proudly cheering them on as they grew and found success in their own baseball careers.
He married Rebecca L Cooper, September 4, 1971, in Moberly, and she survives of the home. Also surviving are his children, Jason Orr and his wife Marci of Mexico, Aaron Orr and his wife Dianna of Hallsville, four grandchildren, Cooper Orr, Roselynn Orr, Parker Orr, and Sophia Orr, a brother, William A. “Bill” Orr and his wife Jadeania, of Moberly, a brother-in-law, DuNard Cooper of St. Peters, four sisters-in-law Barbara Taylor (Columbia), Carol Jackson (Moberly), Angie Govero (Farmington), and Linda Orr (Lee’s Summit), nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends and his beloved dogs Thorne, Auggie, and Leroy.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Jim Orr and Jay Moore.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Stray Rescue of St. Louis, or the American Heart Association.
Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation held at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel and was followed by Funeral Services and Military Honors, honoring and celebrating Jerry’s life. A Private committal will take place at a later date.
