Gerald Ray Wheeler, 81, of Higbee, Mo passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023 at the Veterans Hospital in Columbia, Mo. He was born, November 18, 1941, in Crocker, Mo. to the union of Carl Sr. and Katie (Longbine) Wheeler.
Gerald lived in the Higbee area his whole life. His father had a logging business where Gerald worked, he served in the United State Army and received an honorable discharge in 1965. He was active in the Higbee Area Fire Protection District for 41 years as chief, driver and engineer. He was known as Higbee 403, best pumper operator this side of the Mississippi. He was also a board member for 26 years. He enjoyed working on small engines as well as hunting and fishing.
Gerald is survived by his son Chris Wheeler of Higbee, a sister Ethel Torri, brothers Robert and his wife Charlotte of Atlanta, MO, Carl J and his wife Linda of Higbee, nieces, nephews, other relatives and lots and lots of great friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Gene and Gordon.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
