Gerald Lee Hubler , 68, of Macon, was born November 30th, 1957. We weren’t there when God knit him together, but we are pretty sure he broke the mold and decided, “I’m going to get a bit creative and crazy with this one.” Right from the start Gerald’s desire to live vivaciously surrounded everyone in his proximity. Part of what God weaved together was a bleeding heart that loved people deeply. Gerald did not know a stranger. His presence filled a room, and with his departure from this earth, it just seems a bit too quiet now. He always had a story to tell or a bit of wisdom to share. Gerald was lovingly nicknamed “Professor” due to his unquenchable thirst for knowledge which often resulted in him MacGyvering solutions to most anything that might arise.
He was also born with a green thumb and loved waking up at 4am to drink his coffee and tend his flower garden. Gerald loved to cook and many memories were spent around the table as we enjoyed signature hashbrowns, million dollar lasagna, or New Year’s fried mush. He was an avid outdoorsman and part of that extra God weaved into him was how to slow down, enjoy nature and live off the land. He loved hunting, fishing, and foraging. Spring did not pass by without a frolic in the woods to fill a bread bag with morel mushrooms. By far, his greatest enjoyment of his life was his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandson. Each one was uniquely and indulgently spoiled and seldom left without a cottage cheese container of treasures.
Gerald’s presence will remain in the legacy of love he left his family. He was a beloved husband, daddy, Pom-Po, brother, Uncle, and friend. He left his boisterous laugh and a nickname or two wherever he went. His love of living was poured into every person he encountered. Gerald loved Jesus, and told people often “All knowledge lies under a rock” which was meant to always direct us to lean into the cornerstone of our faith. This faith has now called Him home to the promised land.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, one brother; Brad Hubler, and one sister; Joyce Moffet.
He leaves behind a loving spouse Theresa Hubler; their children, Tessy (Craig) Fuller; Lee (Tabitha) Hubler, and Chandra (Marty) Kator; and his grandchildren Aleigh Fuller, Avery Fuller, Ryan Fuller, Zalen Fuller, Gus Hubler, Haelie Hubler, Mikaela Hubler, Autumn Kator, Nate Kator, and Jade Hubler; one great-grandson Nolan Wilson; siblings Rick (Sara) Hubler, Regina (Mike) Sievers, Kendra (Virgil) Husband, and Cindy Rocha; and a host of extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations for a mission trip to Lambare, Paraguay to help restore a church.
Words of comfort and support may be shared with the family at a visitation to be held, Sunday, May 31, 2026, 4-6pm, at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel, to be followed by funeral services honoring Gerald’s life at 6pm. A private committal prayer and burial will take place at a later date.
