George Wisdom

George Andrew Wisdom, age 95, died June 4, 2026 at Ravenwood Terrace in Moberly, Missouri.

He was born on February 10, 1931 to George Walker Wisdom and Mildred (Pearson) Wisdom in Macon, Missouri. His parents and sister, Nancy Leatherman, preceded him in death.

After graduating from Macon High School with the class of 1949, George, known as Andy to his close friends, enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951.  After completing basic training at Lackland Air Force Base at San Antionio, he served at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. While there, he performed with the 512th Air Force Band from 1951 to 1953 until he was deployed to Elmendorf Air Force Base at Anchorage, Alaska. During his tour of duty in Alaska, he served as a mechanic for the 10th Radio Relay Squadron from 1953 until 1955. He was discharged with the National Service and Good Conduct Medals from Whiteman Air Force Base in Sedalia, Missouri as an Airman Second Class on March 28, 1955.

After his years in the United States Air Force, he took a position as brakeman for Wabash railroad (now Norfolk and Southern) in Moberly, Missouri, from which he retired as conductor in December 1991 after 36 years.

On July 28, 1951, he was united in matrimony with Marjorie Sue Timmons at Tinker Air Force Base. They were married for 64 loving years, during which they had three sons. She preceded him in death.

After Marjorie’s passing, he married Kristine Campbell on July 14, 2016. She also preceded him in death.

George Andrew is survived by his three sons and their spouses, George Wayne (Sharon), Nathan (Sherrie), and Stephen (Michelle); five grandchildren, Kathleen (Corey) Tucker, Natalie Wisdom, Zachary (Katelyn) Wisdom, Hallie (Nate) Walters, and Tanner Wisdom; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

George lived a life of service to the Lord, his country, his family, and his community. He was a member of the Church of Christ for decades, serving in many roles, such as educational director, treasurer, chairman of the finance committee, pulpit committee, and elder.

At the time of his retirement from the railroad, George was Local Chairman of the United Transportation Union local 226. He was a life member of both the American Legion, where he held the positions of color guard, bugler, first vice commander, finance officer and member of the Forty and Eight, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he served in the color guard as bugler. He participated in the Northeast Missouri Silver Haired Legislature, volunteered at Moberly Senior Center delivering meals, and was a 19-gallon blood donor through the local Red Cross.

As a member of the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railroad Employees (NARVE), George held many leadership positions. He served as President of Moberly’s Unit 165, Legislative Representative and Assistant Director of Area 4, and as National Vice President for multiple terms which totaled 14 years of service.

Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation held at the Cater Funeral Home. Funeral services honoring Mr. Wisdom’s life were held in the Cater Funeral Home Chapel. Committal words, prayer, and military honors took  place at the Missouri State Veteran's Cemetery Shelter, burial followed.
