Gary Ralph McAllister, age 73, transitioned to his eternal home, on Saturday, April 19, 2025. He was born to Ralph and Elnora (Illian) McAllister on February 28, 1952, in Davenport, Iowa.
Gary grew up on a dairy farm near Walcott, Iowa. He was a graduate of Durant High School and the University of Iowa with a degree in Civil Engineering, go Hawkeyes. Upon graduating from the University of Iowa he was a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force rising to the rank of Captain, but his passion was always farming. This led him to move to Missouri in 1975 to build his farming operation. A few years later he met the love of his life, Anita Keller. They were married on November 19, 1983, and spent the next forty plus years happily raising their family and farming.
Gary was a quiet, humble man, who as a young adult accepted the gift of salvation through faith in our Savior, Jesus Christ. He felt he did not deserve God’s forgiveness but was thankful for God’s grace and mercy. He reminded us often that the tomb is empty.
Gary is survived by his wife, Anita; three sons and daughters-in-law, who he was very proud of: Justin & Karen, Brett & Casey, and Tyler & Cassie. Eight Grandchildren that he loved dearly: Keller, Eleanora, Gloria, Annabelle, Charlie, Josephine, Parker and Junia.
He is also survived by a sister, Mary (Mark) Bradley, two brothers, Vernon and Dennis (Virginia) McAllister, nieces and nephews, several cousins and numerous friends.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law, Robert & Eloise Keller, and a sister-in-law, Diane McAllister.
Gary was diagnosed with Glioblastoma in 2023. There is little known about GBM and the family suggests in lieu of flowers a donation to Glioblastoma Research, PO Box 62066, Durham NC 27715, or St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital would be appreciated.
The family would also like to thank members of the community, Lynette and St Croix Hospice for their support and care over the last several months.
Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation held at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services honoring and celebrating Gary’s life followed . A private committal, will be held at a later date.
