Everett Eugene “Buddy” Myers, 86, of Moberly passed away peacefully, Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
Everett was born December 28, 1938 in Randolph County, Missouri to the late Everett Dwayne and Bessie Bernice McCormick Myers.
Everett was raised by his maternal grandparents, Henry Claude and Lillie Pearl Kirkendoll McCormick in Moberly MO. He was a 1957 graduate of Moberly High School, then enlisting in the Army from 1957 through 1963. He served at Fort Leonard Wood, choosing aircraft maintenance as a specialty. He later graduated from paratrooper school at Fort Bragg with the 82nd Airborne Division. He served on the crew of President Eisenhower’s helicopter, and also spent time stationed in South Korea.
A high school COE experience led to a career working for P.N. Hirsch and Co., which took the family to Wabash, Indiana; Topeka, Kansas; Kansas City, Missouri and Marshall, Missouri before bringing them back home to Moberly. He later worked a number of years at Moberly Motors, as well as several years with Dick’s Sporting Goods in Moberly. Everett was very successful in sales and customer service. His helpful, outgoing, friendly personality served him well both professionally and personally.
On September 20, 1958 he married the one great love of his life, Patsy Marie Hess. They have two children, Eugenia Dianne (Gina) Hare of Marshall, MO and Jeffrey Alan Myers of the state of California, as well as two grandchildren, Michael Everett Holder (Shandi) of Nelson, MO and Rebekah Kate Holder of Kansas City, MO.
Everett was a lifelong member of the NOMO Archery Club in Moberly from his teen years and throughout his life. He loved archery and bowhunting, shooting, collecting guns, duck decoys and stamps, fishing, hunting and being outdoors. He especially loved doing things with his grandchildren. Other passions included watching pro football, especially the Kansas City Chiefs, as well as country and oldies music. Willie Nelson was a big favorite of his. Everett made a big splash wherever he was, and his presence will be sorely missed.
Everett is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren, and also by a special cousin, Gary DeRigne (Kitty) of Overland Park, KS, who was in fact a little brother to him.
Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation held, at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel, followed by a service celebrating and honoring Mr Myers life. Committal prayer and military honors took place at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery Shelter, Jacksonville. Burial followed.
