Evelyn Nadine (Elliott) Samp, a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, MO, passed away, May 9, 2023, at the age of 99. She was born, June 24, 1923, in Darksville, MO, to the union of Elmer and Christeen (Harlan) Elliott. On August 18, 1943, she married Lloyd Samp.
Evelyn was a beloved member of the Jacksonville Cairo Unity Christian Church for almost seven decades. She was a resident of The Westbury in Columbia, MO, where she eagerly awaited her 100th birthday in a few weeks. Unfortunately, her body could not quite make it there, and she passed away peacefully.
Evelyn loved spending time with family and friends and was always delighted to see them. Her family and friends will always cherish the memories they shared with her and miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband, grandson Adam Crawford, two sons-in-law, Jim Crawford and Paul Rorvig, her brother, Sidney Elliott, and her parents.
She is survived by her six children: Nancy Samp, Jefferson City, MO, Beverly Crawford, Moberly, MO, Susan (Kevin) Begley, Columbia, MO, Dale (Sue) Samp, Cairo, MO, Bonnie (Pete) Rorvig, Odessa, MO, and Vickie Rorvig, Columbia, MO. Evelyn was also blessed with twelve grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren, who were a source of immense joy and pride.
Twelve grandchildren: Tighe Begley, Matthew Rorvig, Alicia Samp (Sunil Iyer), Josh Begley (Tara), Paul Rorvig (Jena), Andrew Samp (Sondra), Gabriel Crawford (Danielle), Mark Rorvig (Meggan), Kyle Samp (Marlisa), Anna Rorvig (Jamey Jouret), Kaela Rorvig, Kate Buegers (Julian).
Nineteen great-grandchildren: Ryan and Katherine Begley, Evelyn and Avery Begley, Greyson and Hudson Crawford, Jameson and Camden Rorvig, Amelia, Levi, Ruby, Clara, and Judah Samp, Emmett, Fiona, and Alister Samp, Emma and Grady Rorvig, Edward Jouret.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Jacksonville/Cairo Unity Christian Church are suggested.
Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation that was held in the Cater Funeral Home. Funeral Services honoring Mrs. Samp’s life were held the next day in the Cater Funeral Home Chapel. Committal prayer and burial took place at the Memorial Park Cemetery.
