Elder Edward Enoch Wright Jr.

Elder Edward Enoch Wright Jr., 88 of Moberly passed from this life and entered into his heavenly home on November 20,2020 surrounded by his loving family.  He was born May 14, 1932 in Moberly, Missouri to the union of Edward Enoch Wright Sr. and Jewel Goldie Holiday - Wright, the sixth child of seven. He attended Lincoln School in Moberly, Missouri.

Edward Wright and Ella Miller were married June 29, 1957 in Huntsville, Missouri. They were married 63 years. To this union were born five children.

Edward was employed with Norfolk and Western Railroad for over thirty years. He worked in various positions such as cooking and working on the tie gang. He would say that the job was the hottest place in the summer and the coldest place in the winter. But because of his dedication to family he continued to work.

Edward was a lifelong member of Franklin Street Church of God in Christ also known as The Holiness Church. He accepted the Lord at the age of 15 when he stopped by the church after attending a “picture show”.  He continued to serve the Lord all of his life. Edward worked in the Lunchroom also known as “The Holy Stand” cooking and serving fish, chicken, hamburgers, etc to supplement the church. He was called into the ministry at an early age and served as Assistant Pastor at Franklin Street, under Elder J. L. Johnson for many years before becoming the Pastor. Elder Wright served as pastor at Franklin Street for 43 years. While pastoring Franklin Street, he also served as pastor at Macon Church of God in Christ and New London Church of God in Christ. In addition, Pastor Wright served as the Sunday School Superintendent before being elevated to the position of Superintendent of the Moberly District. Elder Wright ministered in the prison and in nursing homes in Moberly; dedicating his life to serving God in any capacity that he could. He was also a member of the Ministers Alliance in Moberly, Missouri serving Randolph County. Elder Wright was in many other organizations until his death. One of the last times that he entered the pulpit, he said that he was going to preach until he couldn’t preach anymore.

In his pastime, Elder loved spending time in his many gardens. At one time he had five gardens in various locations around the city and in Huntsville, Mo. He also enjoyed comparing and discussing gardens with his dad. Elder Wright enjoyed watching sports of all kinds especially during the holidays with his grandchildren. He especially delighted in spending the holidays with his family laughing, talking and beating his grandsons at checker games. He was perceived as a quiet, shy person, but when he shared stories he captured everyone's attention. His laughter would ring throughout the room.  Elder Wright was a humble man known for his wise counsel which he shared with various family and friends throughout his life. Edward was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, pastor, and a friend to the many lives that he touched.

Elder Edward Wright was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Clayton Anthony Wright, two sisters, Marguerite Gray, and Bessie Watts, two brothers, James Wright and John Wright as well as one sibling that died at birth.

He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife, Ella Wright of the home, his son Stephen Wright and his wife Vertina of Columbia MO, three daughters Stephanie McCain and her husband David of Moberly, MO, Cathey Dodd and her husbanb William of Raytown, MO and ,,Roxanne Wright of the home; eight grandchildren, several great grandchildren, a sister Rhoda Johnson of Kansas City, MO and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, congregants and friends.

Services honoring Elder Edward Wright’s life were held in the Cater Funeral Home Chaprl.  Committal prayer and entombment followed at the Oakland Mausoleum.
