Elaine Meyr

Doris Elaine Meyr, 86,  passed into eternal life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 9, 2023. Elaine was born in Independence, Missouri on June 28, 1936 to John Ernest and Bertha (Singleton) Wylie. She graduated from Northeast High School in Kansas City, Missouri in 1954. Elaine continued her education at Central Missouri State College where she obtained her Bachelor's degree in Education graduating in 1958.
Elaine began her teaching career in central Missouri at Salisbury High School, where she met her husband, Melvin Meyr.  Mel and Elaine were married in August of 1959 until Mel’s passing in September of 2020.  Elaine began teaching in the Moberly, Missouri School District in 1970. For most of her career she taught Home Economics at the Moberly Junior High. Elaine went on to earn her Master's Degree in Education at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Retiring from teaching in 1995, Elaine remained involved in the Moberly community throughout her life. She served on the Little Dixie Regional Library Board and was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). As a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Moberly she was active in the Lutheran Woman’s Missionary League (LWML) serving as past president of local and zone chapters.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Kenneth Wylie. She is survived by a son Gerald Meyr (Donna) of Jefferson City, Mo. and daughter Karen Harness (Brook) of Smithville, Mo. She is also survived by her four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorials to the Zion Lutheran Church would be appreciated.

Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation that was held at the Zion Lutheran Church that was followed by funeral services honoring Elaine’s life.  Committal prayer and burial took place at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery.
