Edda Lee Powell, 99, of Moberly, passed away June 10, 2024. Edda was born May 21, 1925, in Kentucky to the union of Edward and Mildred Brite and grew up in Hartford, Kentucky. After high school, she worked for the rationing board during World War II. It was during this time she met William “Bill” Powell, her husband of 60 years. They moved several times during their marriage because of Bill’s career with Peabody Coal Company. They lived in Claremore, Oklahoma, then moved to Clinton, Missouri and then to Huntsville, Missouri, where they lived for twelve years.
In Huntsville, Edda was a “stay at home” mother, an excellent seamstress, and was active in the Huntsville Baptist Church. In 1967, they moved back to Clinton, Missouri where she lived until the latter part of her life. She was active in the Clinton First Baptist Church, in choir, P.E.O., and enjoyed playing bridge. She worked part time at two women’s clothing stores. She enjoyed and was very talented at tole painting and counted cross stitch. Her family and friends enjoyed pictures she cross stitched for them.
Edda was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents Mildred and Edward Brite, her brother Captain Murrel Brite (buried in Arlington), and her daughter Donna Powell.
Edda is survived by one daughter, Cathy Sears and her husband Jim of Moberly. She is also survived by her granddaughter Keli Hurst and her husband Kyle, of North Kansas City, Missouri her grandson David Sears and his wife Sarah of Dubuque, Iowa, and four great-grandchildren, Karter and Kaden Hurst, and Oliver and Owen Sears.

Words of comfort and support may be shared with the family at a visitation to be held, Saturday, June 22, 2024, 10:00 a.m.-11:30 at the Moberly First Baptist Church with funeral services honoring and celebrating Edda’s life to follow at 11:30 a.m. Committal prayer and burial will take place in the Oakland Cemetery in Moberly.
