Obituary

Dorothy Viola Wilson, 95, resident of Mark Twain Assisted Living in Moberly, Missouri went to be with the Lord on October 1, 2023.  Dorothy was born in Chicago, Illinois.  She was the 2nd eldest of four children born to the union of Jesse Andrew and Helen Martha (Puschert) Stottlemyre.

She grew up in Chicago and attended Gage Park High School until her senior year when her family moved to the Fort Henry area.  She graduated from Clifton Hill High School in Clifton Hill, Missouri in 1944.  Dorothy worked for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Moberly as a telephone operator before marrying Virgil J. Wilson.  She was then a homemaker and farm wife, working along side her husband and raising her only child, Carol.  After her daughter married, Dorothy started a new career working at Walmart where she loved working with the public.  Greeting people with a smile was very natural to her as she enjoyed being social.  She was dedicated to her job and did not retire until her mid-eighties.  Dorothy was gifted with the talent of music.  This began in high school as she played in a Ukulele band in Chicago.  She also played the accordion and piano and was church pianist for many years at North Park Baptist Church in Moberly and a member for over 60 years.  In her younger years, Dorothy was a graceful swimmer and enjoyed tending her flowers.  She loved her grandkids and animals which earned the nickname of "Grandma Spotty" from her grandkids as one of her pets held that name.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Carol Hayes of Fulton, Missouri, 2 grandchildren Cindy Windsor and husband Brice of Fulton, Missouri, and Chad Hayes and his wife Cheryl of Windsor, Missouri, 4 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Velma Handy and Betty Huntsman, and a brother Donald Stottlemyre.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to North Park Baptist Church, in honor of Mrs. Dorothy Wilson.

Funeral services honoring and celebrating Dorothy’s life will be held Sunday, October 8,2023, 2:00 pm, graveside at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Moberly, led by Senior Pastor, Dewey Burge of North Park Baptist Church.
