Obituary

Dorothy Ann Irons, 95, of Moberly, Missouri, passed away, October 14, 2023. She was born May 25, 1928 in Sand Spring, OK to E.J. and Ona (Doughman) Wegs. Dorothy married Guy “Rusty” Irons, Jr. on August 27, 1947 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Moberly. He preceded her in death in September 1, 2003.

Dorothy graduated from Moberly High School in 1946. She had varied work and a volunteer career. She also had an active farm family life. Dorothy was a long time member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and was a church organist for over forty years. Dorothy was employed at Southwestern Bell in Moberly as well as AT&T in Kansas City.

Her hobbies included gardening, tole painting, sewing, and even competing in tractor pulling contests. She took flying lessons and as a student pilot had a successful solo flight between Moberly to Quincy, IL. She often flew with Rusty as co-pilot on his pipeline patrol. Dorothy was a member of Beta Sigma Phi for 70 years, and was also a member of the Moose Lodge and Lulu’s Girl’s Night Out. Everyone who knew Dorothy enjoyed her spunk, determination, and quick wit.

In addition to her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, a son Philip Irons, step-mother, Dora Wegs, and six siblings.

Survivors include her children, Ted (Judy) Irons of Monroe City, MO, Dana Barton (Dennis Horsman) of Columbia, MO, and Laura Goin (Don Johnston) of Thompsons Station, TN; grandchildren, Jackie Barton of Columbia, MO, Chuck Irons of Kansas City, MO, and Tony (Beth) Irons of Columbia, MO; three great grandchildren and extended family.

In lieu of flowers memorials to the St. Pius X Catholic Church would be appreciated.

Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation that was held at the Cater Funeral Home.  A Mass of the Resurrection was held in the St. Pius X Catholic Church.   Committal prayer and burial took place at the St. Mary's Cemetery.
