Dorothy Yvonne Carter, 84, of Madison, died Friday, January 5, 2024 at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. She was born June 8, 1939, in Monroe County, Missouri, to Elmer Joseph and Eva Maye (Daughenbaugh) Reynolds.
Dorothy attended Clarence schools and graduated Clarence High School.
She married Jack Carter, July 2, 1965, in Clarence, Missouri, and he preceded her in death, November 7, 1999. Also preceding her in death were her parents, one sister, Shirley Reynolds, three brothers, Phillip, Eddie, and George Reynolds, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law,, Robert Luther, Connie Reynolds and many on the Carter side.
Prior to retirement Dorothy and her husband owned and operated D.J.’s Tasty Treat in Madison, Missouri.
Survivors include her daughter, Tammy Carter and her Fiancé, Brian Riddle, of Columbia, Missouri, two step- grandchildren, Brian Anthony Riddle and his wife, Ally, of Columbia, Missouri, and Alex Riddle of Denver, Colorado, a sister, Wilma Luther of Colorado Springs, Colorado, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Dorothy loved to be on the go and spent many recent days going on the Oats Bus, but she loved to travel anywhere. She really enjoyed traveling to music shows or with her daughter, Tammy. she also loved her visits to McDonald’s and Wendy’s, watching the game show network, shopping, playing games with friends, and she never missed a Cardinals Baseball game.
Dorothy liked to read and keep up with politics. She always enjoyed all her visits with Tammy and Brian’s friends, they meant a lot to her. Dorothy fought hard to the end and she will be missed by so many people. May the Dorothy be forever a bright light in your memory!
Funeral Memorial services honoring and celebrating Dorothy's life will be held Tuesday, January 9, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel. A private Committal prayer and burial will take place at a later date in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Madison, MO.
