Doris Grider

Doris Grider, 85, of Moberly, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2022.  She was born April 20, 1936 in Moberly to the union of David Everett and Violet Lorene (Halterman) Downing.  She will long be remembered for her loving spirit and devotion to her family.

She married John G Grider September 12, 1953 who preceded her in death on February 20, 2011. Also preceding her in death were her parents.

Doris worked at Coates Street Presbyterian Church, Uregas and the Social Security Administration in Moberly for many years prior to her retirement.  She was most recently a member of the North Park Baptist Church where she served as the Organist for many years; she also played piano, sang in a traveling quartet “His Harmony” and was secretary many years at Cummerberland Presbyterian Church.

She was an avid sports enthusiast who played tennis, soft ball and bowled in her youth.  Later she and her husband, John, coached girls and women softball teams.

Doris is survived by her children, John Grider and his wife Cynthia of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Jamie Grider and Valerie Foos and her husband David all of Moberly;  4 grandchildren Daniel Stephen Jones, Nicholas Ryan Jones, Jeremy Carlos Grider, Justin David Grider; 2 great grandchildren Maverick Grider and Doris Jones,  other relatives and friends.

Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation, held in the Cater Funeral Home Chapel, followed by funeral services honoring and celebrating Doris’s life.   A private committal prayer and burial took place at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery.
