Doris Jean Gipson, 89, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2022. She was born February 23, 1933 in Cairo MO to Orville and Pauline McKinney. She married Delbert Gipson on April 22, 1952 in Hannibal MO.
Doris graduated from Cairo High School and was a life-long member of the Cairo / Jacksonville community. She was an active member of the Cairo Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, worked with youth and assisted with other ministries. Doris also worked at several places including the Moberly Library, Wal-Mart and Tedford Florists.
Her many hobbies included painting, sewing and reading. Most of all, Doris enjoyed her large and loving family. She especially enjoyed her grandkids and great grandkids.
Doris Jean is survived by her husband Dell, children Philip Gipson and his wife Melva of Cairo MO, Kim Gipson and his wife Beth of Wilmer AL, Diane Linneman and her husband Larry of Columbia MO and Jason Gipson and his wife Amy of DeLand FL, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Eddie Bee McKinney and granddaughter-in-law Bethany Gipson.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cairo Baptist Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation that was held in Cater Funeral Home Chapel, with funeral services honoring Doris’s life that followed. Committal prayer and burial took place at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery.
