Obituary

Donald Wayne Hess, 86, of Moberly passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 4, 2023.  He was born to the union of Richard E and Flossie (Stevenson) Hess, September 11, 1936, near Higbee.

As a younger man Donald enjoyed driving and riding horses and mules, loved shooting trap and skeet, was an avid quail hunter and later in life traveled north to Iowa and South Dakota to pheasant hunt.  He was honorably discharged from the US Army as a combat engineer; worked on the N&S Railroad for 43 years. He attended welding class at MACC and loved to build trailers or repairing whatever needed to be repaired.

He is survived by his children Steve Barnes and his wife Shari, of Higbee, Angel Stuphin and her husband Randy, and Vicky Hess all of Moberly,  grandchildren  Ashley and Chris Jones, Julie and Alex Wilson, Stephanie and Eric Schupp, Jessica Smith, and Mark Hess, 6 great grandchildren, brothers,  Kenny Hess and his wife Velma and Jerry Hess, all of Moberly, a sister Connie Agler and her husband Bob of Higbee, nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Lela (Jansen) Hess, his parents, brothers Richard “Buck” Hess, Raymond Hess, Charles Hess and Billy Joe Hess and sisters Judy Hess and Bernice Taylor.

Words of comfort were shared with the family at a visitation, held in the Cater Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral services and Full Military Honors honoring Donald’s life followed. Private committal prayer and burial will be held in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville, Mo., at a later date
