Dody Gail McCreery–Preston, 61, of Mid-Missouri, passed away unexpectedly November 25, 2024, at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. Dody was born June 28, 1963, in Germany to Shirley and Larry McCreery, while her father was deployed during his military service. She spent her entire life in Mid-Missouri, surrounded by family and friends.
She is survived by her beloved daughter and son in law, Summer and Bob Branstetter of Moberly; sisters, Cleta (Terry) Huston of Moberly, Lisa Starks of Macon, and Pam Weirich of Moberly; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who brought joy to her life. Though she was separated from her husband of 29 years, Chris Preston, they remained friends and shared many fond memories. She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley McCreery, brother in law Davey Weirich, cousin Kenny Griggs, and aunt Kay Grant.
Dody was a dedicated worker, balancing her career as a housekeeper while running her own successful tax preparation business for over 20 years. Her work ethic and determined spirit were admired by all who knew her.
A lover of life’s simple pleasures, Dody enjoyed cooking for others, gardening, canning, sewing and landscaping. Her creativity and resourcefulness shone through in her automobile and home repair projects. Her main goal in life seemed to be "help as many people as I can". She was a devoted animal lover, especially to her cherished dogs, Bella and Lulu. Her advocacy for all pets, particularly dogs, reflected her compassionate and caring heart.
"Whether my maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter." -Winston Churchill.
She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by those fortunate to know her.
A celebration of Dody’s life was held at A Stroke of Magic in Moberly, MO,
