Delores Irene Farris

Obituary

Delores Irene Farris, born February 11, 1930, passed away peacefully, May 20, 2026 at the age of 96. She was one of six children born to Josephine and Jessie Ray Perkins in Mendota, Missouri. After her father’s death, she moved to Moberly with her mother and sisters and later married Byron Farris Jr. in 1948. Her life was devoted to her family, church, and the family business, Farris Door and Decorating Company, where she worked until she was 88 years old.  She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association and a one-time Woman of the Year recipient. In 2015 Farris Decorating was awarded Business of the Year by the Moberly Area Chamber of Commerce.

Delores was a devoted member of Immanuel Baptist Church and later Carpenter Street Baptist Church, where she served as a teacher and sang in the choir. Her love of music was a main theme of her life and she encouraged her children and grandchildren to be trained in music. She loved the old hymns and could be heard singing them from memory until the end of her life.

She is survived by her three children: Kay Klinkenborg (Max) of Sun City, Arizona, Paul Farris (Linda) of Moberly, and Debra Spurgeon (Alan) of Oxford, Mississippi. She has four grandchildren: Erik Klinkenborg (Heather) of Kansas City, Missouri, Jason Farris of Washington, D.C., Aaron Farris (Cassandra) of Moberly, and Christopher Farris (Kate) of Columbia, Missouri: four great grandchildren: Charlotte Farris and Clara Farris, of Columbia, Riley Grace Farris, and David Farris of Moberly. She is also survived by her sister, Roberta Cochran of Bolivar, Missouri and brother-in-law John Farris of Fredericktown, Missouri as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Ravenwood Terrace Memory Care and St. Croix Hospice for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Friends of Rothwell Park Foundation.

Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation held at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel, followed by funeral services honoring Mrs. Farris’s life. The Reverend Max Klinkenborg officiated assisted by Dr. Jason Farris, organist, and Christopher Farris, trumpeter. Committal prayer and burial took place at the Oakland Cemetery.
