Obituary

David Knowlton Brownfield, 59, of Columbia, formerly of Moberly, passed away from pancreatic cancer Monday, January 9, 2023 at home surrounded by loved ones.  He was born to the union of the late Robert K “Bob” and Margaret (Ritter) Brownfield, January 27, 1963 in Amarillo, TX.

David married Laura Cornett June 1, 1996 in Columbia, Missouri and she survives of the home.  Also surviving are his children Bennett Knowlton and Emily Ann Brownfield, both of Columbia, a brother Matthew G. Brownfield and his wife Deanne and a sister Amy Ann Brownfield, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He relished his days playing football for Moberly High School. David graduated from the University of Missouri with a B.S. in Business and a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. He began his career in sales at Craig Distributing in Salem, Missouri. He changed careers to the financial industry as an Investment Executive at Stifel Nicolaus in Columbia and finally as Vice President of Commerce Bank Financial Advisors from which he had recently retired. He planned to spend his retirement learning the cattle business, working the farm, driving his tractor and sleeping in the cabin by the wood stove with the windows open listening to the sounds of rural Missouri.

David was a modest but proud Eagle Scout. He was the example of, “solid foundation of clean living, honest work, unselfish citizenship and reverence for God.” He carried those values throughout his life.  He was admired by all who knew him. He was a trusted, solid, calm advisor, friend and confidant. He was selfless, never wanted to bother anyone, never wanted the spotlight and put everyone before himself. He put faith and family above all else. He loved every aspect of being a baseball dad with Bennett especially their long road trips and time with the other dads. He loved helping Emily with homework, their long talks and cherished their special bond. He was the rock and foundation of the family. He was the tethered basket to Laura's hot air balloon. He will be forever in our prayers of gratitude, as an example of strength, devotion and love. He enriched our family in so many ways. He is now in the arms of Christ, who has prepared a place for him, a place of comfort, peace and love.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to The Crossing Church, Columbia or Rock Bridge Home Run Club to provide financial aid for Bruin high school baseball players.
