Dale Wood, 91, of Moberly, Missouri, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025. He was born November 4, 1934, in Duncans Bridge, Missouri, Dale was the beloved son of Marvin and Mattie Norine (Skinner) Wood. On June 6, 1953, he married the love of his life, Joyce Wheeler. Their marriage was filled with devotion, laughter, and unwavering support. Joyce remained the center of Dale’s heart until her passing.
In 1953, Dale enlisted in the Army Reserves and proudly served active duty during the Korean War. His dedication to service reflected the values of honor and responsibility that guided him throughout his life. In 1968, Dale began a remarkable career with New York Life Insurance, where he faithfully served his clients and community for 55 years before retiring. His work was more than a profession; it was a calling to help others, and he carried it out with integrity and care.
Dale was an avid water skier and continued to ski well into his later years, retiring his skis in 2005. Over the decades, he created countless joyful memories with family and friends at Thomas Hill Lake and the Lake of the Ozarks. Whether pulling loved ones behind a ski boat or sharing laughter on the shore, Dale’s love for the water and the people around him was a source of happiness and connection.
Those who knew Dale will remember his ever-present smile and the warmth he shared with everyone he met. Whether greeting friends at the post office in the early mornings or gathering with his coffee crew, Dale’s kindness and good humor brightened the days of many. His greatest joy, however, was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, always present at school events, activities, and milestones. His steadfast support and gentle encouragement will be cherished memories for generations to come.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joyce Wheeler, and his grandchildren Ashlie Grieser and Christopher Opre.
He is survived by his children: David (Shannon) Wood of Florida and DeAnn Wood-Coffman of Moberly; grandchildren: Stephanie (Chad) Warden of Moberly, Dr. Colleen (Michael) Coffman of Columbia, Wm. Austin (Kassandra) Coffman of Alamogordo, NM, Amanda Wood of Florida, and Cameron Wood of Florida; and great-grandchildren: Levi, Aubrey, and Abel Warden, Charlotte Coffman, and CJ Wood. He is also remembered fondly by several cousins and extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church of Moberly or Shriners Hospital for Children in St. Louis, honoring Dale’s lifelong commitment to faith, family, and service.
Dale’s life was a testament to love, loyalty, and joy. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
Words of comfort and support were shared with the family at a visitation held at the Trinity United Methodist Church, followed by funeral services honoring Mr. Wood’s life. Military Honors, committal prayer and interment followed at the Oakland Cemetery.
